Biography

"Any kind of art form is about creating the kinds of things that you think are beautiful." — Chick Corea

Cuban pianist, composer, and arranger Maria Medina translates compelling stories into bespoke sonic landscapes across live concert stages, visual media, and studio productions. Believing that every project demands authentic beauty, Maria has developed a vibrant, genre-bridging style that shapes her as both a performer and writer.

María’s musical path began in Cuba, where she started at age seven, graduating from the Conservatorio de Música Esteban Salas at age 17 in classical piano, music education, and musicology. She continued her education in the US at the State College of Florida (SCF) under Russian pianist Aza Torshkoeva and later earned a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music, with minors in Film Scoring and Recording and Production. Her studies have been sponsored by both institutions, the Latin Grammy Community Foundation, the Steinway Society of Sarasota Scholarship, the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota, among others.

Already a versatile performer, Maria started writing for both live and studio. In a span of two years actively working as a writer, she got to arrange the music of Jacob Collier for the Berklee 2026 Commencement Concert at the Agganis Arena, a tribute to Cuban artist La Lupe in the annual show Ídolos Latinos at the Berklee Performance Center, and a participation as a bandleader, arranger and performer at the MIT Bridging Talent and Opportunity Forum with guest artists like Emilio and Gloria Estefan. She is currently collaborating with both independent artists and local institutions in both live showcases and upcoming releases.

Her creative voice extends into film, advertising, and multimedia, where her approach is deeply informed by her background in classical music, jazz, and contemporary styles.

Available for live performances, film and advertising collaborations.
