Biography

Salt Fire are a British alternative folk-rock duo from Brighton that formed in 2023. Alice and Qasim met as teachers some ten years ago and recently decided it could be fun to see what happens when you challenge a classically-skilled violinist and a lo-fi folk guitarist to write songs together.

They each bring different playing styles, influences and approaches to writing music yet a wonderful middle-ground is met where each provides what doesn’t come naturally to the other. To craft their sound, Alice has branched out into vocals and percussion, favouring cajons and anything else that sounds good when you hit it. Qasim, additionally, incorporates analog synths and bass as well as providing vocals.

At the moment they are busy writing and recording a collection of songs in an overheated attic using a tablet, a cheap tower fan and any instrument that inspires them to strum, bow or strike it. Their mutual love for experimentation has enabled them to make the most out of limited range sonic sources to achieve a big sound with strong melodic hooks.

They are looking forward to seeing how their full sound will translate to live performance. Keeping within their spirit, it will take some experimentation!
