Biography
wht.rbbt.obj (“White Rabbit Object”) is a rock ’n’ roll reckoning. Lauded by Rolling Stone for their “late-night decadence and velvet tones,” this femme-fatale-fronted powerhouse blends garage rock, blues, and soul with unapologetic edge.
What began as a covert side project between married duo Frank and River Rabbitte has evolved into a four-piece tour de force — a noir-rock act as cinematic as it is dangerous. The couple write every song together, the way some people plot heists: with precision, passion, and the thrill of getting away with something they shouldn’t.
Fronted by River Rabbitte, who sings like she’s exorcising ghosts through a tube amp, and Frank Rabbitte, whose bass lines could rattle loose a confession, this isn’t nostalgia — it’s a revival. The sound hits somewhere between a backroom blues jam and a midnight sermon. Gritty, cinematic, and just dangerous enough to make you question your good judgment.
And they've built the band the old-fashioned way: one believer at a time. Guitarist Mike “Opal” Vinopal brings the kind of tone that smells faintly of bourbon and heartbreak, while drummer Aaron “AC” Coleman hits like he’s trying to knock the devil off his back. Together, the foursome makes the kind of noise that fills a room and silences the cynics.
They’ve been called a lot of things — noir rock, garage soul, blues revivalists — but what they really are is believers. Believers in sweat over software. Believers in the song that makes you close your eyes and shake your head like you’ve just remembered something you wish you hadn’t.
NPR’s Sound Opinions has featured the band twice, first calling their sound “heavily distorted roadhouse raunch” — the kind of sweat-slick energy that feels one bad decision away from a brawl — and later describing it as “perfect for the Peaky Blinders soundtrack.” Between those poles lives wht.rbbt.obj: equal parts danger and elegance, a band that can shake the walls or haunt the room — sometimes in the same song.
And the signal is spreading fast.
The band has earned widespread global radio play, including SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage, and now, with the new album, spins across London, Chicago, Boston, L.A., Portland, and Detroit. The single “I Get Stuck” was also featured on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum, introduced by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran.
On stage, wht.rbbt.obj has proven itself on both sides of the festival fence — from local showcases to national main-stages. The band won a slot at SXSW 2023 through a songwriting competition, has performed multiple Riot Fest–sponsored shows, appeared at the 2025 Winnetka Music Festival alongside The Rivalists, Pete Yorn, Cold War Kids, and Natasha Bedingfield, and has taken the main-stage at Summerfest Milwaukee twice (2023 and 2024).
From the dive bars to the main stages, every set feels like confession and combustion at once.
