wht.rbbt.obj (“White Rabbit Object”) is a rock ’n’ roll reckoning. Lauded by Rolling Stone for their “late-night decadence and velvet tones,” this femme-fatale-fronted powerhouse blends garage rock, blues, and soul with unapologetic edge.
What began as a covert side project between married duo Frank and River Rabbitte has evolved into a four-piece tour de force — a noir-rock act as cinematic as it is dangerous. The couple write every song together, the way some people plot heists: with precision, passion, and the thrill of getting away with something they shouldn’t.
Fronted by River Rabbitte, who sings like she’s exorcising ghosts through a tube amp, and Frank Rabbitte, whose bass lines could rattle loose a confession, this isn’t nostalgia — it’s a revival. The sound hits somewhere between a backroom blues jam and a midnight sermon. Gritty, cinematic, and just dangerous enough to make you question your good judgment.
And they've built the band the old-fashioned way: one believer at a time. Guitarist Mike “Opal” Vinopal brings the kind of tone that smells faintly of bourbon and heartbreak, while drummer Aaron “AC” Coleman hits like he’s trying to knock the devil off his back. Together, the foursome makes the kind of noise that fills a room and silences the cynics.
They’ve been called a lot of things — noir rock, garage soul, blues revivalists — but what they really are is believers. Believers in sweat over software. Believers in the song that makes you close your eyes and shake your head like you’ve just remembered something you wish you hadn’t.
NPR’s Sound Opinions has featured the band twice, first calling their sound “heavily distorted roadhouse raunch” — the kind of sweat-slick energy that feels one bad decision away from a brawl — and later describing it as “perfect for the Peaky Blinders soundtrack.” Between those poles lives wht.rbbt.obj: equal parts danger and elegance, a band that can shake the walls or haunt the room — sometimes in the same song.
And the signal is spreading fast.
The band has earned widespread global radio play, including SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage, and now, with the new album, spins across London, Chicago, Boston, L.A., Portland, and Detroit. The single “I Get Stuck” was also featured on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum, introduced by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran.
On stage, wht.rbbt.obj has proven itself on both sides of the festival fence — from local showcases to national main-stages. The band won a slot at SXSW 2023 through a songwriting competition, has performed multiple Riot Fest–sponsored shows, appeared at the 2025 Winnetka Music Festival alongside The Rivalists, Pete Yorn, Cold War Kids, and Natasha Bedingfield, and has taken the main-stage at Summerfest Milwaukee twice (2023 and 2024).
From the dive bars to the main stages, every set feels like confession and combustion at once.
Because for wht.rbbt.obj, rock ’n’ roll isn’t a genre—it’s a beautiful risk.

Named a "Chicago Local Band You Should Be Listening To."
Do312, January 2025
"They got an EP that is out now, with a track on it called "Your Love is A Crime," that I think is terrific. Some people have been comparing River's voice to Amy Winehouse, but I'm getting more of an Anna Calvi vibe . . . there's sort of a gothic noir vibe going on . . . perfect for the Peaky Blinders soundtrack. I like that spooky vibe . . . there’s a bit of a soul vibe as well. You can almost feel the wet city streets at 3AM. Somebody’s smoking a cigarette under a lamp post and this music is playing in the background . . . wht.rbbt.obj, A band that I hope doesn't stay a buried treasure much longer . . . and that killer Eddie Hazel funkadelic like guitar solo . . . there is much coolness on this track . . . just searing stuff."
Sound Opinions, Episode 974, July 26, 2024
"From its name, wht.rbbt.obj has an enigmatic quality. The Chicago band, pronounced as White Rabbit Object, consists of the couple Frank and River Rabbitte. They have evident sonic links to the work of Amy Winehouse, blending elegant late-night decadence and velvet tones, bridging soul and lounge. "Your Love's a Crime" is a polished display of their potential."
Rolling Stone en Espanol, July 5, 2024
"Great song, great production, great band, great backing vocals… But the lead vocal is simply stunning. If the likes of Amy Winehouse, Beth Hart and Janis Joplin are your bag, then get a load of River Rabbitte."
Music Republic Magazine, July 10, 2024
"If the opener, “Your Love’s A Crime,” sounds like the sort of thing Amy Winehouse might be doing if she were still with us, the EPs swansong, “Dirty Love”, is a blast of garage rock ‘n’ soul straight out of a Detroit basement blues club as the ’68 riots ignite all around it."
The Big Takeover, July 10, 2024
"It’s a testament to the band’s knack for crafting rock songs that are as memorable and inviting as any pop tune. wht.rbbt.obj is the kind of band you dream of discovering in an intimate venue like The Empty Bottle or The Cutting Room, where the barrier between audience and performer dissolves into a shared, electrifying experience. “Romeo Bravo Bravo Tango'' is a testament to their ability to rekindle the dangerous allure of rock in an era that sorely needs it."
Bored City, June 26, 2024
“Across five songs, they take the idea of rock and infuse it with soul and psychedelia, sass and sensuality. But it is anything but alternative rock in the conventional sense, something which, by and large, is still full of the same old bluster and bravado and baggage. No, this is alt-rock in that it replaces those boring, ubiquitous cliches with real seductive swagger, with explorations both deeper into rock’s past and way beyond its usual boundaries, offers a glimpse of the future forged from the lessons of the past.”
Dancing About Architecture, July 10, 2024
“Your Love's a Crime” kicks things off with a unique fusion of soul and garage rock. The vocal harmonies are strikingly beautiful and the lead vocal feels on fire like it’s releasing all the static energy that needs to explode. It's a killer groove that builds on human performances that feel like they could have been recorded and mixed by the late and great Steve Albini.”
Buzzslayers, June 28, 2024
“The music on this EP sizzles. It’s edgy, has attitude and often contains performances that resonate with a technical and creative spark . . . the band isn’t trying to push these songs into experimentation but rather harness the energy, spirit and vitality that made rock such an electric experience . . . The vocals are what truly gripped me—not just expansive in range, but brimming with a myriad of emotions . . . echoing influences from bands like Led Zeppelin and Yes. It commands attention, inviting head-nodding from the get-go. What sets it apart are its unpredictable transitions—especially the lightning-fast lead—that catch you off guard in the best way . . . Whiskey Hotel Tango stands out as a powerful EP that has a lot of replayability. It skillfully captures the essence of a live performance, delivering an experience that feels vibrant and authentic.”
Indie Music Reviews, Dec 13, 2023
“The rock solid drumming is there, as you might expect, and the riffs have been lined in metal to keep these five songs close to the ground where they can do the most damage. So far so good, I hear you say, and this band’s muscular credentials are never in doubt but what might make this band more than another reinvention of rock’s seventies heyday. Well, that something might well be the way in which all that is no doubt wearing black leather gains a soulful, almost ethereal, quality thanks to the voice of River Rabbitte who weaves a spell that evokes the memory of Grace Slick as much as she does Joss Stone. It’s a sincerity thing and that’s the thing you really want to hear. “Whiskey Hotel Tango” has more style than you might reasonably expect of a rock band and, while wht.rbbt.obj clearly know what the people like to hear, they have stamped their own personality on this EP and that makes them more than worthy of your attention.”
Bluesbunny, Dec 08, 2023
“Whiskey Hotel Tango . . . positively smolders with late-night indie-blues cool. . . The EP begins with the epic ‘Love On Hold’ which sounds like the dirty blues soul sister of Amy Winehouse and The Commitments. ‘No Rainbows In Indiana’ . . . simmers and stews with its dizzying whirl of guitars and smokey vocals. It’s a stunning track that stays in your head and deserves it’s place on your next playlist. The final track ‘Keep You Like A Secret (Tidal Wave)’ takes it down a notch. This is a late-night ode to love, replete with atmospheric Hammond organ, piano and those to-die-for vocals. It’s just gorgeous. When River exclaims she’s fallin’ for you, you really want it to be about you. wht.rbbt.obj will raise the hairs on your neck with their darkly, seductive blues rock.”
Right Chord Music, November 24, 2023
“wht.rbbt.obj, a Chicago-based duo comprised of a husband and wife, embodies the spirit of rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes and The Black Keys in their latest EP, Whiskey Hotel Tango. . . . wht.rbbt.obj emerges as the real deal, demonstrating an impressive level of musicianship. The band's delivery is on point, and their vocalist stands out as one of the most exceptional talents in recent memory.”
