Biography

Rushil is a multi-disciplinary and genre-defying artist and composer based in London. His work across contemporary, Sufi and classical music has earned him a reputation as one of the most distinctive and extraordinary musical voices around today.

As a classical crossover composer, Rushil has had his works performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Firdaus Orchestra, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan  and many other acclaimed classical artists and ensembles. His most recent commission, the world’s first Urdu Symphonic Poem premiered with the pioneering Manchester Camerata and his longtime collaborator, Abi Sampa, to critical acclaim. He was also awarded the PRS Foundation Composer’s Fund in July 2023 to tour the work.

Rushil is also the progenitor and composer of the Orchestral Qawwali Project, a critically acclaimed musical duo (with Sampa) that seamlessly reframes the spiritual rapture of Sufi music through its rich orchestral scores.Since its debut in 2020, the Project has amassed millions of views and streams and performed with orchestras around the world where Rushil’s pioneering scores have drawn praise from industry titans such as AR Rahman and Nitin Sawhney amongst others.

As a composer for film and TV, Rushil has already built up an impressive list of credits and accolades having scored award winning films for NetflixITV, Flim 4 and the BFI.  He most recently scored the Bafta nominated and ground breaking documentary “Always Asifa.”  He also composed the score and wrote the songs for the Iris award winning film “Queer Parivaar”.  His music has also served as the soundtrack for a number of major brand campaigns such as as Coca Cola and Manish Malhotra.
