J.D. Spears is an award-winning composer currently best known for his work on blockbuster hits such as League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, as well as the cult classic Chivalry 2 and its many expansions. J.D.’s musical palette often features large orchestral ensembles performing bombastic rhythms, and bold melodies. His music has been celebrated and was recently featured by BMI’s (Broadcast Music, Inc.) Composer Series, the G.A.N.G. (Game Audio Network Guild) Composer Spotlight, and The Game Awards. Additionally J.D.’s music for League of Legends has received several nominations, most notably at the 2023 and 2024 Hollywood Music in Media Awards. In addition to his scoring work, J.D. recently joined the Recording Academy as part of the class of 2025 where he advocates, among other things, to protect musicians rights in the modern age.

As a composer, J.D. is always looking to expand his horizons and work outside of his comfort song. For example, he recently wrote and produced an 80’s-infused synth pop track alongside up and coming pop artist AnDy Darling for Teamfight Tactics: Cyber City. J.D.’s multi-genre work has appeared on multiple television programs including HBO Max’s Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, A+E Networks’s American Pickers, and Amazon Prime Video’s Vikings. Additionally he has uplifted a number of branded and commercial television campaigns, including a recent spot for Ritz Crackers.

J.D. was raised in the music industry - performing from a young age with legendary musical figures like George Jones and Loretta Lynn. He cut his teeth interning at several recording studios before forging his own path and going on to tour with various bands across America. An accomplished musician, Spears used his diverse skills with guitar, bass, drums, and piano to transition to composing for media. As of today, J.D.’s music has amassed over 20 million streams across major music streaming services. When not composing, he can be found playing video games, collecting vinyl records, and appreciating whiskey.
