Hello, my name is Hywel Wyn Jones and I am a music composer based in the UK.

Having spent my entire working life in a non-musical, professional field, music has nevertheless played a huge part in whatever spare time has been available to me. I am now able to devote more time to my passion of composition and music production.

I have a keen interest in orchestral music, often with hybrid elements and synthesisers and in recent years a particular affinity for Scandi/Nordic Noir music. I have a dozen or so production music albums with exclusive libraries in my name. In the future I aspire to cross the bridge into soundtrack creativity for any moving media.

I am passionate about the writing and production of music. Emotive melodies, strong harmony and interesting textures, rhythms and sounds are important to me. Combining hybrid sounds, synths and evolving textures with more organic traditional instrument sounds such as strings and piano is a particular favourite of mine.

Classically trained on both piano and violin as a schoolboy (both to Grade 8), I played in several youth orchestras. Though my skill as a violinist has lapsed somewhat, I have continued to play piano and keyboards throughout my life.

I also have a great interest in photography and have used images I have taken as inspiration for musical ideas and creations. A few of my photographs can also be seen on my website and in my videos.

In early 2025 after deciding to dip my toes into soundtrack creation, my first attempt received a nomination for Best Original Musical Score. This was achieved for “Fragments” an entry by Lynch Lovers in the 2025 48 Hour Film Project - Inverness.
