What album changed your life—and why?
"Speaking of Now" by Pat Metheny Group. It opened my eyes to how music could be more than what I already knew. I would memorize the leads, which greatly helped me grow in how to feel melody and cadence.
What's your creative ritual before starting a new piece?
A backroads drive, an overpriced (but good) cup of coffee, and maybe a nature walk, if time allows. I do this almost every day.
If your music had a spirit animal, what would it be?
Dolphin. Hands down. Intelligent, free to roam the seas, and always with a bit of an attitude - smacking around those sharks...
What's a hobby or passion outside of music that fuels your creativity?
Aviation, photography, and video games.
What's a movie, show, or game that always makes you cry (or feel something deeply)?
"Arcane" - The storytelling, the heartbreak, the soundtrack, the score, the animation... all of it. Messed up, brilliant, and next level.
Biography
David Thulin (pronounced "to-lean") was born and raised in Sweden to parents Morgan and Helene Thulin. His family immigrated to Florida when he was young, and he spent his childhood traveling between Sweden and USA.
David now owns and operates a music production company out of Nashville, TN where he produces music in most genres, for artists like TJ Jackson (of 3T), Sam Tinnesz, Andreas Moss, Christian Kirk, Melanie Pfirrman, Icon for Hire, and many more.
Thulin is an established producer and songwriter, but he also composes music for Film/TV. David has music on TV shows on almost every major US TV network, including ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, E!, MTV, Netflix, Paramount+ and more! Such as “Survivor” “The Masked Singer” “Claim To Fame” “Making It” “Mariah’s World” and many more!
Starting off as a beatmaker and remixer, Thulin spent his early days remixing artists in the CCM world, and making beats for rappers. In later years he has focused mainly on producing for other artists, composing for TV shows, and building his own artistry via two widely different projects: Simple Thieves (dark pop) and Circa83 (lo-fi).
