From her childhood in North Carolina, to Miami, Chicago and now LA, Nyla’s genre-bending musical journey has made waves in her community and drawn in a plethora of collaborators, creators, and deep thinkers to her work. She is a passionate creator who believes in crafting organic and synthetic textures to fashion environments that feed our imaginations.
Her love for songwriting and vocal music has also been a catalyst for adventure in her career, sending her to perform at venues like Playstation Theater and the Hollywood Bowl while also working with inspiring ensembles such as BisCaydence, Säje, and Everwild, and Pentatonix.
Nyla is an emerging force in the world of film composition, recently earning recognition for her exceptional talent and vision. In 2024, she was named a Composer/Filmmaker Accelerator Fellow at the Vancouver International Film Festival, where she premiered a piece performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. That same year, she was honored with the Miriam Mayer Perspective Composer Grant, earning her an opportunity to collaborate and record with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. Her innovative compositions continue to captivate audiences and contribute to the evolving landscape of film and media music.
Throughout her career, Nyla looks forward to empowering the voices of queer people and women of color while enriching her music with her vocal gospel and songwriting roots. Woven into the foundation of her art is the belief that stories reveal to us our true selves, and the music that we lend to our stories should help draw the world in.
