Mile End Meteors

This album is a love-letter to a neighbourhood, the Montreal's Mile End district, that deeply inspires him with it's laid-back atmosphere imbued with artistic energy. It's Jasmin's favourite neighbourhood, and the sights and sounds he hears as a resident are woven throughout this dialogue of images. A dialogue with the people, real and imagined, who populate his quotidian scenery. The work  pours out with an intense and concentrated narrative force that nevertheless connects with an audience that might now share his love of Mile End. A dexterous juxtaposition of images and musical ideas come together for an album that sounds like an impressionist painting. Reflecting on his early inspiration for this album, Jasmin wanted each piece to "shine with a lively and fleeting glow like a meteor leaving behind short luminous trails as it enters the atmosphere."

Press Review

the Whole Note magazine:

The Montreal classical guitarist Jasmin Lacasse Roy recorded, mixed and produced his self-issued CD Météores, an album he describes as “an eclectic homage to a neighbourhood that deeply inspires me with its laid-back atmosphere imbued with artistic energy – Montreal’s Mile End district.” The title comes from his desire to have each piece “shine like a meteor.”

The ten short pieces are not literal depictions of scenes or events, but impressions (Roy wanted an album that “sounds like an impressionist painting”), and they’re terrific, displaying great imagination, technical skill and virtuosity. The whimsical titles include Cast iron rhapsody, Impétuositeration, The nostalgic chronicles of count Rachmanula, Mile End Winter and Midnight disco lounge.

Roy can write great melodies and hooks as well as challenging tours de force, all of it beautifully recorded in a delightful CD.

Music danses while we sleeps blog:

No short of masterful is the recent release by Jasmin Lacasse Roy, a Canadian guitarist who won our hearts with a track called "Melodyvagation".

Although played by one man and man only, the musical complexity along with the flawless and emotion-soaked delivery speaks volumes for the musical prowess of the owner of the fingers applied to the instrument. Written around a jazz core with intricate elements of folk and neoclassical, the track captivates the listener right from the start and doesn't stop to surprise for the entirety of its just over three minute runtime. Elegantly interchanging between a down-tempo/melodic and a fast-paced/arpeggio movements, the guitarist caresses the listener's ear with pure class that can only be manifested by a natural-born artist with years of experience.

An absolute guitar stunner worth anyone's attention.
