Biography

Kristen Chen is a film composer, music producer, and pianist originally from Chengdu, China, and now based in Los Angeles, California. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring, Kristen is dedicated to creating emotionally rich and narratively driven original music for film, television, games, and multimedia projects. Her work seamlessly blends Eastern and Western musical elements, striking a balance between the epic and the intimate, and forging an organic connection between visuals and emotion through sound.

In recent years, Kristen has collaborated on a number of high-profile international film and television music projects. She has worked with Bleeding Fingers Music, the award-winning music production collective founded by Hans Zimmer and Sony/ATV. With Bleeding Fingers, Kristen contributed to music library series such as Earth Tones and History Tones, which have been widely licensed for major international platforms including BBC, National Geographic, and Netflix. These projects showcase her ability to construct compelling sonic landscapes within contemporary media scoring contexts.

Kristen also contributed music and post-production sound design for the Amazon original series Secret Level, a unique narrative blending mystery, dark comedy, and gaming culture. Set across both real and virtual worlds, the show’s sonic palette—crafted with modular synthesizers, retro electronic textures, and rhythm-driven structures—helped shape its futuristic atmosphere and narrative depth.

She was also part of the music team behind Netflix’s acclaimed animated anthology Love, Death & Robots, contributing to its distinctive and boundary-pushing soundscape. Known for its innovative storytelling and visual experimentation, the series demanded a bold and evocative musical approach. Kristen’s work helped heighten the emotional stakes and underscore the surreal, often dystopian tone that defines the show.

Her work in television includes composing for ABC’s flagship reality series The Bachelor, where she specializes in capturing the emotional nuance between dialogue and editing rhythms, offering subtle yet impactful musical storytelling that supports character development and emotional arcs.

In the Chinese market, Kristen remains actively involved in a wide range of genres. She worked on the post-production music for the popular historical-fantasy drama Dance of the Phoenix (starring Yang Chaoyue and Xu Kaicheng), showcasing her sensitivity to Eastern aesthetics and emotional language. She has also collaborated with Papergames, composing for their hit mobile games Tears of Themis and Shining Nikki, skillfully navigating diverse visual styles from romantic futurism to dreamy fantasy with precise musical expression—earning her strong acclaim from both players and industry professionals.

To Kristen, music is an invisible language that bridges story and emotion. Through continuous exploration, she builds entire worlds with sound, allowing feeling to flow through every melody.
