Biography

Lorenzo Barcella is an award-winning Italian composer of music for film and TV. Most recently he composed the music for the film In Spirito directed by Nicolò Folin, which premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. He also composed the music for the feature-film Snot and Splash directed by award-winning Finnish director Teemu Nikki, which premiered at Locarno International Film Festival 2023. Lorenzo is a frequent collaborator of  London-based director Ajitpal Babbra, composing the music for the award-winning short films Joggers and Infidelity.

Lorenzo won Best Original Score at Hollywood On The Tiber Film Awards for his work on When You Did, directed by Sinead Cassidy Holt. Other honors include first prize at the Premio Vincenzoni Scoring Competition in Italy, and finalist at the California Independent Film Festival (CAIFF) scoring competition. He was also nominated for Best Emerging Composer at the Apulia Soundtrack Awards 2023.

Lorenzo's musical style spans genres, smoothly integrating jazz elements with his distinctive guitar work and sophisticated orchestral textures.  As a jazz musician, he has performed throughout Italy and beyond, at multiple festivals including JazzMi in Milan, Ascona Jazz in Switzerland and Festa dell’Opera in Brescia. He has earned multiple music degrees from the top conservatories in Italy with high honors, studying Jazz, Film Scoring and Composition.
