Jonas Kern is a multi-instrumentalist film composer, writer-director, actor and multimedia artist based in Berlin. Combining experience from various fields of art, Kern is developing an interdisciplinary, immersive work ethic in the film landscape. Acting in pictures he scores, writing and producing pictures he acts in, and taking up various roles within single productions, he encourages a way of working towards Gesamtkunstwerke with his collaborators, interweaving crafts and creating immersive working environments. His repertoire reaches from genre-film, over drama, to horror and SciFi.
Kern's compositions merge electroacoustic, acoustic, and orchestral compositional techniques, exploring boundaries between real and fictitious. Specialising in avant-garde vocal techniques and experimental uses of acoustic instruments, Kern bends these boundaries in his multi-instrument practice and in collaboration with other instrumentalists.
He graduated from the Catalyst Institute for Art & Technology Berlin in the field of Electronic Music and Creative Audio Production.
Under the moniker Forest Choir, Kern has been creating transcendental auditive spaces and multimedia installations for self-exploration and narrative meditation since 2018. Combining live vocals, field recordings and synthesiser performance, Kern has collaborated with artists from various interdisciplinary fields, interweaving his soundscapes with live visuals, performance, and audio-reactive exhibitions.
