Original Scoring for Animation

Zeynep

Zeynep is a short animated film directed and created by Doruk Uzel for which I had the honor of composing an original score for. The animation portrays the story of Uzel's grandmother, the film's namesake, as a young girl, who's family fled from the Soviet Union seeking refuge in Turkey.

After being awoken in the night by her father, the young girls family journeyed from Tsaritsyn (known today as Volgograd) to the port of Sevastopol on the Black Sea. The family would then travel by steam boat to the Turkish city of Samsun, a voyage during which they would suffer the tragic death of the young girls father (the directors great grandfather). Later, having arrived in Samsun, Turkey, the remaining family members would find work in a tobacco factory.

As a whole, the film is a heartfelt and meaningful historical and familial tribute that delves into the nuanced emotions of turmoil, loss, adversity, and innocence.
