Yi-Hsuan Liu

Composer & Music Editor
Based in Los Angeles

My name is Yi-Hsuan Liu, a composer and music editor originally from Taiwan, now based in Los Angeles.

Recent highlights of my career include “The Uniform” (music arranger) and “A Place Called Silence” (music assistant, score preparation), both selected for the Busan International Film Festival in 2024 and 2022. Additionally, I served as the composer for the independent feature film “Chaotic Justice”, produced by Taiwan’s C&J Film Studio, which won the Best Original Score award at the Fox International Film Festival 2022.

As a music editing assistant, I collaborated on the feature film “Sound of Freedom” with music editor Nick South. I have also worked alongside renowned Taiwanese composer Sing Wu on acclaimed TV series, including HBO Asia’s “Trinity of Shadows”, Netflix’s “Psychologist” (produced in China), and “The Summer Temple Fair” from Taiwan.

In addition to my scoring work, I am a music consultant for Gamania, one of Taiwan’s leading video game companies. My role includes creating music briefs and guidelines for composers, recruiting talent for upcoming projects, assisting with sound design, and supervising the implementation of music and sound into games. My recent work includes the release of “Chibi Maruko-Chan Match Puzzle”.

My music bridges the worlds of orchestral tradition, electronic and sound design, reflecting my versatility across film, television, and video games. I began my musical journey as a viola performance major but transitioned to film scoring after discovering a deep passion for storytelling through films and drama.

While pursuing a dual major in Film Scoring and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music, I found myself captivated by Jazz, which further enriched my musical vocabulary and broadened my creative perspective especially for sound. I later earned a Master’s degree from the USC Thornton School of Music Screen Scoring Program, where the intensive training elevated my ability and skills, and shaped my professional attitude, preparing me to take the next step in my career in Los Angeles.
