Biography

Austin Smith is a California-Based composer and guitarist specializing in music for film and media. His work blends a strong foundation in guitar performance with a passion for orchestral storytelling and cinematic scoring.

Austin has interned with Scared Tiger(The Predator, Ralph Breaks the Internet), Remote Control Productions(Shazam, 6 Underground) and Joann Kane Music Service(The Mandalorian, 2019 Oscars), gaining hands-on experience in professional scoring environments. His composing credits include a variety of film projects, as well as Award This!, an awards show dedicated to celebrating independent filmmakers. He is also the composer for the documentary Attack of the Doc!, which chronicles the rise and fall of G4TV and Attack of the Show!. More recently Austin has begun working with the multimedia company Dual Animal as their in-house composer/audio director.

Austin began playing guitar at age thirteen, performing in rock bands and his school’s jazz band. This early experience led him to Hollywood, where he studied in the Guitar program at Musicians Institute and earned an Associate Degree in Guitar Performance. During his time there, his interests expanded beyond performance into orchestration and film scoring. After a recording session with a cellist, Austin was inspired like never before and shifted his focus fully toward composing for picture.

He went on to complete the Film Scoring Program at UCLA Extension and continues to pursue projects that support visual storytelling through music, combining emotional nuance, thematic development, and a collaborative approach to scoring.
