Biography

Helen is a Composer, Arranger, and Interactive Music Designer.

In 2023, Helen joined Lorne Balfe's music team for Neill Blomkamp's film adaptation for Gran Turismo by contributing additional sonic sound and music design to the film's composed soundtrack, alongside video game composers Joris De Man, The Flight, Austin Wintory, Jason Graves, and Lena Raine. This culminated with a roundtable interview for an episode of Scoreheads, which can be viewed here:

Some of Helen's other projects include:

  • Scoring a browser-based game for Altered Gene, entitled Mash-Quito, on behalf of U2/ Bono's charity ONE(dot)org. This game was created to raise awareness against the dangers of malaria.
  • Hosting events such as Audiokinetic's 'Wwise-Up' event at AirWiggles' AirCon 2024 and a panel at the International Music Publishers Forum (IMPF) in 2024 discussing how games and music can creatively multiply each other.  In addition to this, Helen hosted a game audio event on behalf of Screen Ireland in 2023 discussing music design with game developer Paul Conway of Spooky Doorway.
  • Meeting His Parents (Short film), which was screened at film festivals, including but not limited to, The Rhode Island International Film Festival, where it won the 'Alternative Spirit Award'.
  • Night Swimming (Short film), which was selected for the Montréal Independent Film Festival and also selected and nominated for awards at Los Angeles International Film Festival, Waterford Film Festival, Indie X Film Festival, and more.
  • Performing in orchestras for classical crossover artists in Ireland the U.K. such as The London Video Game Orchestra, Katherine Jenkins, Il Divo, and Jose Carreras and under the baton of conductors such as Eimear Noone, Neil Thomson, Anthony Inglis, and Lev Parikian.
  • Serving as a panel judge for both The Ivor Novello Awards 2023 and 2024 for the 'Best Original Video Game Score' category, and for The BAFTA Game Awards in 2024 in the 'Best Music' category.
  • Orchestrating and arranging string ensembles for other composers' projects, most recently orchestrating a piece recorded by FAMES orchestra in Macedonia entitled 'Suite for Strings'.
  • Previously working in music publishing for the Music Publishers Association of Ireland (MPAI).

Helen is a proud member of  BAFTA, The Ivors Academy, and The Screen Composers Guild of Ireland. In addition to her work, Helen also enjoys audio mentoring, and is actively involved in IMIRT (The Irish Game Makers Association).
