Sebastiaan Bax

Sebastiaan is a Dutch composer, pianist, and musical director. Educated at the Utrecht Conservatory (Musician 3.0), his work is rooted in contemporary piano performance, where he combines a jazz background with a strong drive for improvisation and original composition. His music is characterized by an unconventional approach, subtle emotions, and a broad colour palette, preferring to compose in an experimental and layered way that focuses on acoustic instruments and embraces the imperfections of live performance, such as raw acoustic elements or ambient life sounds that add authenticity and vibrancy.

His work spans festival-selected short films, live-cinema projects, commercials and theatrical productions, earning industry recognition including the Buma New Talent Award and a Buma Music in Media Award. Moving effortlessly between intimate, minimalist piano pieces and expansive dramatic compositions, Sebastiaan’s strength lies in emotional precision, building immersive sonic worlds that resonate with vulnerability, depth, and tension.
