Composer/orchestrator/conductor
Based in Finland, with lots of experience handling various projects, big and small and everything in between.
Jussi Lampela is a composer/orchestrator with a long history as an in-demand arranger and orchestrator on concert works, recordings and feature films, and as a composer on documentaries and short films. He has also led several of his own ensembles, with Jussi Lampela Nonet being very succesful on the jazz scene around Finland (nomination for the Finnish music industry’s Emma-prize in 2010, concerts and recordings with pianist Iiro Rantala and singers Mari Palo and Sami Pitkämö + many others).
He has composed music for documentaries and short films (for production companies Optipari and YLE), documentary “Lepakkomies ja Rajanvetäjä” for the Finnish broadcasting company YLE featured Pekka Kuusisto on violin. As an arranger and orchestrator he has worked on close to 20 feature films, among them the movie “Dark Floors” (dir. by Pete Riski, movie about the characters in the band Lordi, winners of Eurovision song contest 2007) and the Finnish movie “Big Game” (dir. by Jalmari Helander, starring Samuel L. Jackson).
Lampela is also used to navigating big projects, having worked over 10 years as the music producer for the only professional symphonic pops orchestra in Finland, Vantaa Pops Orchestra. Originally a jazz guitar major from Finland’s Sibelius-Academy, Lampela has also taken courses in film composition and orchestration (Berklee College of Music, Hollywood Music Workshop and Steven Scott Smalley’s courses).
