Silvio Campanaro is a composer, educator and multi-instrumentalist from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He majored in Music Composition for Film and TV with an additional focus in Historical Musicology, graduating summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music in September 2022. He earned his Master of Music in Screen Scoring from the Beal Institute at the Eastman School of Music in July 2026, and was inducted into the Beta Pi chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, an international musical honours society, before completing his degree.
During his time at Eastman, Silvio composed and orchestrated an original score for the University of Rochester’s “For Ever Better” campaign, recorded with the Eastman Philharmonia and conducted by maestro Mark Watters. He subsequently served as musical director of the bespoke “For Ever Better Ensemble,” a 15-person group that performed an arrangement of his campaign theme at the launch event, where he was also selected as Eastman’s speaker to trustees, philanthropists and community leaders in Rochester. Several months later, he acted as Principal Orchestrator and Copyist on Mark Watters’ original score for the university’s “Wonderful Combinations” campaign.
At Eastman, under the guidance of Dr. Melina Esse and Dr. Crystal Sellers-Battle, Silvio completed the Beal Institute’s first independent study unit on the use of jazz as dramatic underscoring in early-1970s crime thrillers, examining masculinity, heroism and cityscapes in films such as Chinatown, Shaft, Dirty Harry, The Long Goodbye and The Taking of Pelham 123. His writing on Victor Young and Henry Mancini was incorporated into Professor Mark Watters’ “History of Film Music” course. Silvio also studied abroad at IRCAM in Paris, participating in MANIFESTE, an international academy dedicated to contemporary electronic and acoustic music for concert hall, stage and screen. There, his principal instructor was Dr. Robert Hasegawa (Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar at McGill University), and his final paper—a detailed analysis of Steve Reich’s Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ—received top honours.
During his undergraduate studies, Silvio’s music was featured in Berklee’s showcase for musical excellence. His academic writing on film music, music history and music analysis was similarly well received, earning faculty commendations and placements in the showcase and subsequent lectures.
Silvio’s music is published by Atrium Music. He continues to produce library music and virtual instrument demos for leading sample-library companies, including Fracture Sounds and Impact Soundworks. Recent projects include additional music and orchestrations for Seth Wright, featuring Summer Camargo (trumpet, Saturday Night Live band) and five-time GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Mike Stern, as well as a work for percussion trio and electronics that blends the styles of Steve Reich, Mike Manieri, Andy Akiho and Tangerine Dream, premiered in Chicago and Ann Arbor by Blacktop Percussion.
An accomplished teacher, Silvio has over a decade of experience instructing guitar, bass, piano, and alto and tenor saxophone, and is equally comfortable teaching history, harmony and theory. He continues to teach students in Windsor while mentoring first-year undergraduates at Berklee.
As a performer, Silvio has completed hundreds of engagements as a solo saxophonist at events ranging from weddings and bridal showers to corporate functions and galas. As a guitarist, he has played in more than a dozen musical productions, including Jonathan Larson’s Rent, Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years and SpongeBob: The Musical.
