Biography
A classically trained pianist with an innate curiosity, Mathias’ first love was always film music. Drawing from the rich traditions of orchestral music and exploring the possibilities of hybrid and electronic sounds, he crafts music that resonates intimately with each project with the sole aim of deepening the emotional impact of the films he scores.
With an ever growing list of credits and clients, Mathias’ work has been shown on RTÉjr with his score for MARVEL artist Will Sliney’s directorial debut “DROID ACADEMY”. The score for the latter was recorded by the MTU Cork School of Music Orchestra under the baton of Mathias himself during a session which saw no other than the Lord Mayor of Cork attending.
A passionate storyteller, Mathias enjoys taking part in filmmaking challenges such as the Cork’s People Picture-house 48hr Challenge which saw him taking home the “BEST ORIGINAL MUSIC AWARD” in 2025 for his score for “Money Shot”, a short film entirely made in 48 hours.
Upcoming projects include a RTE Doc on One score, and several short animations.
His career started as a composer assistant for Anna Rice including credits such as Andrea Corr’s “The Christmas Album” and the award winning scores for “Our Blue World” and “I Dream In Photos”. Mathias has also played a major role in the creation of “For The Lack of Laura”, a musical created by American composer Kurt Rosenberg, for which he assisted the Orchestrator Jake Morgan with transcriptions, copying, recording supervision, mixing and live keyboard performance in Ireland and the 2025 UK tour. More recently, Mathias worked with Oscar Winning composer Stephen Warbeck on his upcoming feature film.
Passionate about all things musical, Mathias also leads a Choral Conductor career which led him to orchestrate and conduct a piece for the Cork Opera House 2024 Christmas Concert, conducting his Cork Male Voice Garda Choir and the COP Orchestra. He also is the musical director of the Carrigaline Choral Group as well as the Apple Workplace Choir.
