Biography

Mina Samy is award winning Egyptian composer and music producer and an Oscars Academy Gold Alumni based between London and Cairo.

A rising talent in international cinema, Mina’s debut feature Light: The Tale of Daye’s Family earned nominations for Best Feature Score and the Rising Star Award (Music and Sound Awards), opened the 4th Red Sea International Film Festival, and screened at the 2025 Berlinale (Generation). His second feature, Happy Birthday, premiered at Tribeca 2025, winning Best International Feature and the Nora Ephron Award, with Mina receiving an HMMA nomination for Best Score. The film is currently Egypt’s official submission to the 98th Oscars. His score for the Egyptian TV series Lam Shamseya was also received an HMMA nomination and was selected and received the esteemed Arab Drama Critics Award for best TV score of 2025.

Mina has also contributed music to major documentaries, including Studio Canal’s Becoming Hitchcock: The Legacy of Blackmail and The Age of Disclosure (SXSW), collaborating with BAFTA nominated composer Blair Mowat.

A Royal College of Music graduate (full scholarship), Mina studied Composition for Screen, finishing top of his class and receiving the Joseph Horovitz Prize.

Drawing from his Coptic and Middle Eastern roots, orchestral training, electronic music, and performance background, Mina brings a distinctive, emotionally resonant sound to every project.

An Alumnus of both the Composer Filmmaker Accelerator (Vancouver International Film Festival) and the Film Composers Lab with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Mina was also selected for the THRIVE Mentorship Program, led by acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe.

He is currently scoring a new project by Academy Award–winning studio Slick Films.
