Guitarist Matt Richards grew up in the culturally fertile cross-currents of the 1960s. His musical pathway opened in the mix of folk, rock and psychedelic music that defined that decade and eventually guided him into the hyperactive jazz-fusion of the 1970s. As his musicianship developed, he discovered straight-ahead jazz and World music and began performing as a solo acoustic artist.
Matt has been featured as both a solo artist and with his trio in major festivals, most notably the Montreal Jazz Festival, One Month Festival of South Korea, Welcome America, the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival, and various NAMM Shows. His musical collaborators include guitarists Larry Coryell and Tony Hughes, organist Joey DeFrancesco, bassist Bill Zola and drummers Kenwood Dennard and Adrian Valosin.
Matt is actively involved in studio production, recording and engineering his most recent trio album release Power Trio Project and his solo guitar album release Balance.
In addition to new solo and group projects Matt is composing music for commercial licensing and soundtracks.
