"Whether on six-string guitar or a fretless 11-string Richards is truly a guitarist's guitarist."  JazzTimes

"Matt's album  Balance  is his best work. His rendition of "Manha De Carnaval" is a masterpiece – I've never heard better." Larry Coryell

"Richards' trio doesn't play your grandfather's brand of jazz."  JazzTimes

"The album  One In Mind  offers evidence of Matt's versatility. Most of the tracks were recorded live, including duets with bassist Bill Zola that may owe as much to the influence of Bill Evans as to Django Reinhardt."  Jazzwise

"Impossible to define and largely improvisational, One In Mind  suggests a musician who’s always going to be pushing the boundaries."  Acoustic Magazine

"You braved horrendous weather, came in and played tremendously -- the audience loved your performance."  Dover Public Library

Guitarist Matt Richards grew up in the culturally fertile cross-currents of the 1960s. His musical pathway opened in the mix of folk, rock and psychedelic music that defined that decade and eventually guided him into the hyperactive jazz-fusion of the 1970s. As his musicianship developed, he discovered straight-ahead jazz and world music and began performing as a solo acoustic artist.

Matt has been featured as both a solo artist and with his trio in major festivals, most notably the Montreal Jazz FestivalOne Month Festival of South KoreaWelcome America, the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival, and various NAMM Shows. His musical collaborators have included guitarists Larry Coryell and Tony Hughes, organist Joey DeFrancesco, bassist Bill Zola and drummers Kenwood Dennard and Adrian Valosin

Matt is actively involved in studio production, recording and engineering his most recent trio album release Power Trio Project and his solo guitar album release Balance

In addition to his solo, duo and group projects Matt composes music for commercial licensing and soundtracks.

Matt plays  Godin  guitars and  John Pearse  strings.
