Continuing the tradition of seasonal releases from the monumentally popular League of Legends franchise, For Demacia transports players to the earlier days of one of Runeterra’s most beloved regions. Demacia is a utopia on the surface. It is a lush, prosperous kingdom serving as a beacon of hope for those seeking shelter from the dangers that lurk in the darker corners of Runeterra. The Demacian people value honor and loyalty above all. However, darkness awaits in the wings. Something evil is brewing in the forestssurrounding the city, and its roots have taken hold within the kingdom itself. The For Demacia main melody is introduced in the season start anthem “Salvation” and is used as the central motif throughout the album. While the lead track is pure cinematic pop, the rest of the album takes a more traditional approach to what sacred Demacian music might sound like. Beginning with “From Greatness,” the listener is transported to the main League of Legends’ battlefield, Summoners Rift. The following tracks “Burden of Hope” and “Wall of Stone,” present an ever-escalating set of circumstances, culminating in “For Demacia!,” where all of the motifs introduced in the previous track arepaid off in full.

Rather than rely on a traditional symphonic orchestra, the composers built an ensemble tailor- made for this expansion. First and foremost is a live brass ensemble recorded at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, CA. This ensemble incorporates French horns and trombones, but changes things up by opting for cornets instead of trumpets and heavily featuring solo euphonium. This offers a more “liturgical” sound that feels as though it could resonate throughout the holy structures of the city. Another key element is chamber choir, performed by the world-renowned London Voices and recorded at British Grove studios in London. Their beautiful and, at times, haunting performance is presented in a fictional “ancient Demacian” language, tying together bits of lore and sprinkling in a few easter eggs along the way. In addition to the score for the main Summoner’s Rift game mode, the album also features music from other parts of the expansion, including in-game motion comics, the new “Demacia Rising” game mode, and a brand new character theme for the beloved half-dragon Shyvana. What began with Welcome to Noxus last year is fully realized in this years’ “Season 1” expansion. Players are taken on a journey of adventure, reverence, tradition, and danger. No matter which corner of League of Legends they explore, the score for For Demacia is sure to bring the experience to life.
