Biography

James Burnett is a songwriter, composer, producer, and music supervisor whose work spans hit records and acclaimed projects for visual media. He is the founder and chief creative officer at Burnett Music; composer at Neon Orchestra; and guitarist for Little Dume.

He composed Billy Shakespeare, the original runway score for Prohetik’s opening show at London Fashion Week, which was the first and only fashion show ever held inside the Tower of London. He is the executive music producer of several Neon Orchestra projects including Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series On Brand and HBO’s docu-series Celtics City, and music supervisor of films and television series including Amazon MGM Studios’ American Gladiators, Billy Knight starring Al Pacino, Charlie Heaton, and Diana Silvers, and This Is The Year executive produced by David Henrie and Selena Gomez.

As executive music producer for Deadpool 2, James helped bring to life “Ashes” by Celine Dion, which became a global hit. His songwriting credits include chart-topping releases such as “Craving” by Arty and Audien, a Billboard Dance #1, and “Settle,” the lead single from Jordan Smith’s #1 album Something Beautiful.

Q&A

Which album would you bring if you were stranded on a desert island, and why?

Legend by Bob Marley and The Wailers. They tapped into something from another place. The music feels like peace and connection, speaking to life's struggles while carrying a sense of hope.

What’s a hobby or passion outside of music that fuels your creativity?

Surfing, being in nature, traveling. I get so much inspiration from being in the ocean, climbing mountains, meeting people from different cultures.

If your studio had a theme song when you walked in each morning, what would it be?

"Takin' Care Of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive! The song always reminds me of that scene from A Night's Tale when Heath Ledger wins over and over again at competitive sword fighting. It always makes me smile.
