Biography

Born of Japanese and German descent, John Hunter was indoctrinated into a diverse musical world of influences since childhood.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring, Hunter honed his musical skills over a multitude of genres whilst working as a freelance composer for advertising.

Working with the largest brands in the world (Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Ford, Dodge, Anheuser-Busch, American Airlines) to name a few, Hunter gained recognition as a composer for advertising. It was his work with Hasbro and his scores for their animated film revivals of GI JOE, that opened the door which led him to the world of music for film and television.

Hunter scored “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”. Devoid of any dialogue, the film relied solely on Hunter’s score as the voice of the film. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short.
