Biography

Music has the ability to tell stories, to evoke emotion, and to communicate with others. It's these different powers of music that drew Matthew Flynn to be a composer. In 2023 he worked in New York City as an assistant for Grammy-nominated composer and sound designer Daniel Kluger. In his time there, Matthew supported the production of Dan's music, and audio for an upcoming short film. He also helped Dan set up his new music studio, with colleagues Derik Lee and Ian Kagey, Grammy-award winning recording engineers.

In 2021, he co-created the soundtrack for a physical therapy video game at the Johns Hopkins Medical Research Center. The music was highly interactive, smoothly changing tempo and arrangement in direct response to the player's manipulation of the controller. This was made the focus of the interactive music system, rather than game state, to encourage and inspire the player through difficult and sometimes painful physical therapy

Matthew is also an audio programmer. He has worked on audio implementation and middleware integration for indie game projects, and has created VST plugins that are publicly available for anyone to use. To see more of his audio programming work: www.audio-programming.matthewe-f.com

Matthew graduated from the Peabody Conservatory in 2024 with a degree in Music for New Media, under the direction of Thomas Dolby. He also received a degree in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University, through the two schools' dual-enrollment program.
