Biography
Originally from Boston and now based in Los Angeles, Dan R. Howard is a film composer whose work spans three feature-length films and numerous shorts. His scores are known for their emotional resonance, strong thematic identity, and unforgettable sonic textures, earning him a Best Composition nomination from the AGMA Awards and an Honorable Mention for Best Score from the Independent Short Awards.
Dan began his career in Los Angeles by assisting a range of established film composers, gaining firsthand insight into the scoring process, studio dynamics, and the art of musical storytelling. That early experience shaped his collaborative instincts and deepened his understanding of how music supports narrative from the inside out.
His musical voice blends evocative sound design with explorations in acoustic and orchestral spaces, crafting immersive soundscapes that elevate story and deepen character. He approaches scoring with an improvisational mindset, reacting to scenes in real time to create space for discovery. This instinctive process keeps his ideas fresh, his themes alive, and his music deeply connected to the emotional pulse of the film.
