Dr. Marcus Norris founded South Side Symphony with the idea “What if orchestras didn’t exist, and were invented today by a young Black man?” He describes the sound as "like if Quincy Jones grew up on 90s R&B and Rap." In the short time since forming, they’ve performed for thousands of people at iconic LA venues such as the Music Center and the crypto.com Arena, as well as recorded for major albums, films, and TV shows. The predominantly-Black ensemble most recently recorded Marcus's score for the highly anticipated AppleTV+ drama mini-series Lady in the Lake starring Natalie Portman and directed by Alma Har’el, which premieres July 19th along with the original soundtrack album. The orchestra’s motto is “Our Music in Our Time,” because we know nobody can tell our stories like we can.
