Playing piano from the age of six, Randal spent so much time at the piano that his father padlocked it; but his passion for the piano quickly defeated the lock and made him even more determined to play.
In 2019 Randal Branham began composing film scores, working with director Manya Glassman. His first film, Sofia’s Tapestry, won awards at acclaimed festivals, including Audience Pick at Oscar qualifying Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival and Official Selection at Carnegie Mellon University Short Film Competition. In 2021 he composed the score for the film Acquiescence, which won “Best Composer” at the NYC Independent Film Festival and “Best Original Score” at 8 & Half Film Awards. In 2022 he composed the score for Deep Tissue, earning “Best Composer” at the Toronto Film and Script Awards.
In 2025 Randal composed the original score for How I Learned to Die, a short directed by Manya Glassman and executive produced by Spike Lee. The film has been selected for World Premier Release at Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Branham has composed over 30 original pieces for films and is currently composing for additional films with upcoming releases.
Randal studied classical music, lyrics and voice at Eastern State College, Berklee College of Music, and Rollins College. Before film composing, he won several awards for his original music, including Billboard's best song contest for Kid, Honorable Mention for Wonderful, and the International Song Writers’ Guild Award for the song Fly Away. He may be seen performing at the statewide Florida Music Festival - as well as performing at Disney Springs and other venues in Florida, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. Branham is a current union member of Chapter 389 of the American Federation of Musicians.
