
Joy Lisney enjoys an international career as a cellist and composer for media and the concert stage. Joy has performed in major concert halls including the Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall and Leipzig Gewandhaus and her cello can also be heard in major productions including films from the Spiderman franchise, “Enola Holmes”, “The Flash”, and ITV dramas such as “Shetland” and “Grantchester”. She has served as assistant producer for string orchestra scores including the Netflix documentary “The Secret Lives of Orangutans” (David Mitcham) and episodes from ITV drama “Mcdonald and Dodds” (Blair Mowat). Her film scoring projects include the short film “Persecution” directed by Breanna Box and released on nowness.com. As featured composer for Jacquie Lawson e-cards, her original compositions are heard by millions worldwide.
In the concert hall, Joy has collaborated with major artists including the Allegri and Endellion Quartets, Sir Stephen Cleobury, and Dame Emma Kirkby. In addition, she has played principal cello with orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. She is also an accomplished conductor and in 2021 was selected to conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra in Marin Alsop’s Conductors’ Masterclass at the Royal Festival Hall.
As a composer, Joy’s music is noted for its blend of expressive melody and rich harmonic inventiveness. While studying composition at Cambridge University, she was appointed their youngest Composer-in-Residence in history, and quickly began receiving commissions from major European artists including BBC Radio 3, Ensemble Recherche, Arditti Quartet, Mithras Trio, Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, Cambridge University Choral Society, Dante Quartet / Dante Festival, Barbican Quartet, Park Lane Group, and Orchestra for the Earth. Her music is regularly performed at major concert halls across Europe.
