Miu Sato is a New York-based Japanese composer for film, multimedia, and musical theatre, as well as a pianist. A strong believer in the power of storytelling and highlighting underrepresented voices, she enjoys exploring a wide range of sonic palettes and incorporating her unique exposure to various cultures and experiences in her works.
Miu is a recipient of the Alan Menken Scholarship and Production Music Association Scholarship. She holds a Diploma in Piano Music Performance with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and is currently pursuing a B.M. and M.M. in Screen Scoring at NYU.
Miu has composed numerous orchestral works, including Reflections, which was read by the NYU Orchestra in 2022 and has also scored many award-winning independent films. She is currently composing music for a new original musical in development titled, Neverland Never Ends, which recently received 5 nominations (including Best Production) at the New York Theater Festival and won Best Musical Score.
In addition to her work as a composer, she has music directed at 54 Below for a night of Celebrating Diversity in Theatre, served as the AMD/Keys 1 for an Off-Broadway production of Into the Woods, and has also toured nationally with artists, performing on keys at renowned venues such as the Troubadour and Meow Wolf.
