Biography

GRAMMY® winners Opium Moon create sensuous, cinematic soundscapes that draw upon the virtuosic skills and diverse ethnic backgrounds of its members: Iranian santoor master Hamid Saeidi, innovative Israeli bassist Itai Disraeli, first call American percussionist M.B. Gordy, and the passionate melodicism of Canadian-American violinist and film/TV composer Lili Haydn, whose passion and fluid mastery of her instrument enchant in every song.

With original compositions that meld sacred/classical traditions of East and West with trance-inducing grooves, the result is at times both stately and rapturous, a sultry and passionate instrumental music that seems to emanate from a deep wellspring. NPR's Bob Boilen called it "both a deep, thoughtful breath and an upbeat celebration."

ABOUT The Time Has Come

In an era when music created by real people is increasingly being eclipsed by AI, Opium Moon’s new albumThe Time Has Come is unmistakably human. As shrinking attention spans and short-formcontent train listeners to be less patient and present, Opium Moon’s newest opus seduces us with true presence, with 53 minutes of soulful, spacious, and sensual music that is as fitting for meditation as it is for making love.

The 10 tracks on The Time Has Come tell a story of transformation, opening with the sinuous midnight melodies and deep grooves of“1001Nights,” journeying through mystery and drama on “Throne ofSand,” and culminating in the celebratory“Morning Sun,”with its virtuosic solos and propulsive rhythms. Individually accomplished as musicians, the members of Opium Moon coalesce into a rapturous, haunting and sensual whole.

Lili Haydn’s Violin and Hamid Saeidi’s santoor(Persian hammered dulcimer) shimmer with passionate flourishes, while Itai Disraeli’s fretless bass sings and dances with MB Gordy’s percussion. Together, thisGrammy-winning quartet weaves something that feels both ancient and elemental, mingling shadow and light.

Each of these players has composed for film and television (Haydn was nominated for an Emmy for her work in the Netflix hitGinny & Georgia), and together the music of Opium Moon is intentionally spacious and cinematic. The Time Has Come seeks to conjure an enchanted and more loving world–especially poignant given that Saeidi was born in Iran, and Disraeli in Israel. Their collaboration is an act of connection, musicians from war-torn countries making peace through harmony.

Their 4th album asOpium Moon is emblematic of their ongoing natural chemistry and virtuosity, and isan elegant step forward from their Grammy-winning debut, Opium Moon.

While contemporary music often nudges us impatiently to consume the next new thing, The Time Has Come invites listeners to lean in. It’s an antidote to a moment of increasing callousness and algorithmic mimicry. Opium Moon’s response is a work that is sensual, spiritual, and politically resonant–an album that feels urgent by simply calling us back to our shared humanity.
