Biography

Emel Mathlouthi is a Tunisian-American composer, singer, and producer known for her genre-defying fusion of ancestral sound, cinematic atmosphere, and political depth. Celebrated globally for her haunting voice and her role as a sonic force in the Arab Spring, Emel has expanded her artistic reach into scoring for film, documentary, and video games—bringing her distinct emotional and cultural lexicon to the screen.

Her screen credits include The Man Who Sold His Skin (2020), where her song “Merrouh” underscored the film’s emotional core, and The Swimmers (Netflix, 2022), which featured “Holm,” co-written with Anooshiravan Rohani. She composed original scores for Le Nom des Autres (2022) and The Life That Remains (2024), and collaborated with Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack) on Il Comandante (2023). Her voice and co-composition feature prominently in Assassin’s Creed Mirage (Ubisoft, 2023) on the track “Daughter of No One.”

With a sound that traverses Arabic, English, and French, Emel's work resonates with spiritual urgency and radical tenderness. Whether crafting symphonic movements or minimal vocal motifs, she brings a singular voice to the world of visual storytelling—fusing tradition with experimentation, and memory with myth.
