RAZTERIA EPK 2026

Razteria (also known as Renée Asteria Peñaloza) is a San Francisco Bay Area-based band led by singer-songwriter Renée Asteria, in close collaboration with guitarist-producer Dave Shul. With multicultural roots in Bolivia, the Netherlands, and the United States, the group's eclectic world pop style fuses Latin grooves, reggae riddims, rock, pop, alternative R&B, and world influences—often compared to early No Doubt meets Sade, Bomba Estéreo, H.E.R., Nathy Peluso, and Kali Uchis, featuring strong expressive female vocals, multilingual lyrics, and modern production over throwback styles.
Their two most recent studio albums were produced and co-written with Shul: Tocar las Estrellas (2023), an alternative Latin album, and Prowess Blossoming (2024), a retro rock album. This ongoing partnership has emphasized rhythmic depth, emotional resonance, and innovative explorations, building on Razteria's earlier discography since her 2005 debut, including reggae-infused bilingual efforts like Faces of Agent Double E / Caras de Agente Doble E (2007) and later releases up to Space to Play (2021). In 2026, following a creative hibernation in 2025, Razteria is releasing two singles per month, culminating in two full-length albums: the R&B-focused Reflections and a rock-leaning follow-up (title TBD). Recent highlights include "Reflection of You" (a soulful uplifting R&B ballad, co-written/produced by Shul with musicians like Robert Crawford on keys and Ronnie Smith on drums) and "Oscuro y Claro" (a dreamy melancholic Latin pop-jazz track with polished production, featuring Alcide Marshall on drums and horn arrangements by Dan Casares).
Razteria's live performances captivate audiences, featuring veteran musicians Waddell Bell (bass), Raleigh Neal (keys), Ronnie Smith (drums), Alcide Marshall (drums), and Roberto Quintana (percussion). The 6-piece band is available for originals and covers across genres, with past shows at Ashkenaz, Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, Sonoma County Fair, Laurel StreetFair World Music Festival, Brick & Mortar Music Hall, Tabard Theatre, Golden Gate Bandshell, OaktoberFest, MusikFest, Reggae on the River, Montreal Jazz Festival, World One Festival, WorldFest Los Angeles, and Northwest World Reggae Festival.
Noteworthy awards include "Once Again" (Grand Prize, John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2016), "Baila" (International Songwriting Competition semi-finalist 2019), "Inspire Me" (ISC finalist 2020), and the "Life Is Too Short" (2024) music video (official selection at SF Film Festival's Another Hole in the Head).
